Estate Matters S3 Ep1: Gavin Lane | Rewriting the story of farming and land management

For the agricultural and landowning industries to be understood and supported, they need to get better at telling their stories.

That is what Gavin Lane, CLA President, had to say in the latest episode of Estate Matters. He tells podcast host Anna Byles one of his ambitions during his two-year presidency is to re-write the narrative of farmers and landowners. He says too often they are seen as villains of the countryside when in fact the majority are heroes.

Gavin explains the social value they provide to rural communities often goes unrecognised and it is through improved communication that people will gain a better understanding of the industry.

He acknowledges that other issues, a key one being inheritance tax, might get in the way of his ambitions during his presidency. But his message rings clear – it is time to put the pride back into the industry.
